The secret to a low-effort pool is a small routine done every week, so problems never get big. Here’s the whole system.
The routine
The full version, with monthly and seasonal tasks, is in Pool Maintenance Schedule: The 10-Minute Weekly Routine. Here’s the short version:
- Skim, or let a solar skimmer do it.
- Empty the skimmer and pump baskets.
- Test free chlorine and pH, and adjust in small doses.
- Run the robot.
- Brush the steps, corners, and waterline.
- Check the water level.
- Note the filter pressure.
The CDC recommends testing chlorine and pH at least twice a day for home pools (CDC). Test as often as you realistically can, and always after storms and parties.
